Making a difference, one pet at a time.

SCLP is a 100% volunteer-run facility in Wahoo, Nebraska operating entirely by donated items and funds. We are so grateful to be placed in a community that supports us to help stray and unwanted dogs and cats find forever homes.

“We adopted all five of our current pups from Saunders County Lost Pets. We are forever grateful for this phenomenal rescue, which has brought so much happiness into our hearts & lives!”

“Rescued is my favorite breed.”

Stacy Ideus, SCLP volunteer since 2012

“When I first heard about SCLP, I knew I wanted to get involved but I was not only worried that I’d want to take all the rescue pets home with me, but also that it would make me feel sad for them. I couldn’t have been more wrong! Volunteering at SCLP makes me feel nothing but joy and accomplishment and I know the animals are so very loved while they wait for their forever families.”

FAQs

My pet is lost. What do I do?

Call your local law enforcement (non-emergency line), call SCLP (402-432-2814), and call Green Acres (402-443-3289). There are fees associated with recovering your pet and you must show proof of current vaccinations before your pet is released. Best of luck!

What are your hours?

We have live animals to care for so we are in the building 365 days a year. If you have items to donate or would like to volunteer, typical chore times are 8am, 12pm, 4pm, and 8pm.

How can I get involved?

In many ways! There is a job for everyone; from dog walking to cleaning. If you’d like to volunteer, call or text Debora at (402)432-2814 to set up a volunteer orientation and sign a waiver. Children must be 14+ to volunteer without direct parent supervision.

How much does it cost to adopt?

In general, we ask for a $250 donation for adult dogs and $350 for puppies. For cats and kittens, we ask $100. It widely varies based upon the age of the animal and how long they have resided at the rescue. Your donation covers the cost of veterinarian care for the pet you adopt and the next stray pet as well.

I found a stray cat or dog. What do I do?

Bring them to SCLP or call your local law enforcement to pick up the animal to be taken to a secure holding place. From there they will be held for 5 days, then they come to SCLP to either await reunification with the owner or are assessed for adoptability.

What happens if an animal never gets adopted?

We are a no-kill shelter. All adoptable pets have a home at the rescue until they find their forever home. Some pets wait just days, and some years. We make sure that each pet is a good match to a new owner and sometimes that can become a process.
